The absorption and the metabolism of Vit B12 is very complex and has to go through many hurdles.
It s absorption requires a healthy stomach level of Hydrochloric acid and pancreatic enzymes.
The presence of the Helico Bacteria in the stomach reduces the acid level and also binds to it and so will compromise it s absorption .
The presence of the Intrinsic Factor that opens the door for B12 to enter the blood stream in some people is absent due to a gene mutation.
Normal bacteria flora produce B12 in the large intestine and carry it through to the ileum, the distal part of the small intestine.
In case of a Small intestine bowel overgrowth (SIBO) in other words excessive bacteria in that part of the gut, will highjack the B12 and prevent it from being absorbed.
After Bariatric Surgery or any form of surgery performed on the Stomach will compromise the Acid production and impact on vitamins, minerals and on iron levels.
The presence of Folic Acid ( Synthetic ) in the diet will block B12 from passing through the gut lining.
Once the B12 enters the blood stream it has to enter the red cells by binding to different receptors: TCN1,TCN2 and TCN3, if they are not functioning this will reduce the B12 available for it’s metabolism in combination with Methylated folate (not Folic Acid).
Vit B12 comes in many Forms : Adenosylcobalmine, Hydroxycobalamine and Methylcobalamine .
They have very different functions in the body :Energy support, heal the gut and maintain a normal blood pressure and support the nervous system and the brain.
In the case of an excessive blood B12 level, and not from supplements is indicative of a liver condition as it is accumulating in the liver cells and not being able to make use of it.
For what reason:
The presence of mold, heavy metals, free radicals, deficiency of glutathione ,zinc , B1, B3 deficiencies …).
High levels of B12 will be oxidized and eventually cause inflammation.
